Tree Service on Okaloosa Island, Florida

Storm tree removal, trimming and rigging over condos and houses on Okaloosa Island, the Gulf-front barrier island between Fort Walton Beach and Destin.

Okaloosa Island is the part of Santa Rosa Island that the federal government handed to Okaloosa County in 1950, so it answers to the county rather than a city, and Eglin Air Force Base runs a test range on the same barrier island. Reed Tree Service's climbing crew, working the Emerald Coast now, takes storm-damaged trees off roofs and out of condo grounds by working them down in sections. Ask your association what it needs before work starts. Call Josh at (850) 888-5603.

Tree Service in Okaloosa Island, FL

Okaloosa Island is the Okaloosa County end of Santa Rosa Island, the barrier island on the Gulf between Fort Walton Beach and Destin. The county took over an 875-acre parcel with 3 miles of Gulf frontage from the federal government in 1950, and it is not part of any city. Hurricane Isaias came ashore at Destin as a Category 2 storm on October 9, 2026, and Okaloosa Island was in the mandatory evacuation zone ahead of it. Reed Tree Service is based in Tallahassee, and our climbing crew is working the Emerald Coast now on storm removals, trees on roofs and hangers. Call Josh at (850) 888-5603 and he will tell you whether the crew can get to your Okaloosa Island address.

About Okaloosa Island & Okaloosa County

Several layers of authority meet on Okaloosa Island. The first is the county: the island is unincorporated, and the county's permit guide for the island, dated March 2012, says development projects there need approval from the Okaloosa Island Leaseholders' Association Architectural Review Committee under the island's protective covenants. The second is Eglin Air Force Base. Its Santa Rosa Island Range Complex sits on the same barrier island, between Navarre and Okaloosa Island, and Eglin has raised the fines for trespass in its Closed Test Area, so an address on federal ground is not somewhere a tree crew can simply drive onto. Eglin's reservation also includes Hurlburt Field, west of Mary Esther on the mainland. The third layer is the condo or resort association. Florida law makes the association responsible for maintaining common elements such as grounds, unless the declaration assigns a limited common element to the unit owner.

Debris follows the county. Okaloosa County began collecting storm debris in unincorporated areas on October 14, in two pickup periods, with vegetative debris cut to 8 to 10 foot lengths, unbagged, visible, and clear of hydrants, mailboxes, power boxes, water meters and vehicles. The county will service a gated subdivision, or one with manned security access, only if the homeowner association has provided a signed Right of Entry Agreement, so a gated building or community should ask its association whether it did. The county's published notice does not say how it treats debris a tree crew cuts, so ask before you count on the road. The storm debris line is 1-833-495-3664.

The trees are coastal. UF/IFAS Extension describes the Panhandle's barrier island forest as pine, oak and magnolia, shortened and twisted by Gulf salt spray, and the front dunes carry sea oats. Florida law protects beach dune plants: seaward of a state coastal construction control line, damaging them takes a permit from the Department of Environmental Protection. Landscaping planted around a resort is a different thing from a dune plant, so tell Josh where the tree stands.
