Pricing & Estimates
Tree removal cost depends on the size of the tree, its location, and the complexity of the job. A small tree in an open yard costs significantly less than a large oak leaning over your house that needs crane assistance. Call Josh at (850) 888-5603 for a free estimate.
Yes. Every estimate is free and comes with no obligation. We'll visit your property, assess the work, and give you a clear written quote. No high-pressure sales, no hidden fees. Call Josh at (850) 888-5603 or fill out our online form to request yours.
We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards. For larger jobs, we can discuss payment arrangements. Payment is due upon completion of the work.
Our Process
Yes. Stump grinding in Tallahassee is one of our core services. We can do it along with a tree removal or as a separate job, and we grind the stump below grade so you can cover the spot with soil and grass. It is quoted per job, and the estimate is free. Call Josh at (850) 888-5603.
Most single-tree removals are completed in a few hours to one full day, depending on size and complexity. Large trees requiring crane work may take a full day. Multi-tree jobs are typically completed within 1-3 days. We'll give you a time estimate when we provide your quote.
Debris handling is quoted when you call Josh at (850) 888-5603. Cleanup, chipping and stump work are quoted extra, and haul-off is only on bigger jobs, through a sub Josh hires and quotes. If you want to keep larger logs for firewood, just let us know. We tailor every quote to what you actually want done.
Emergency Service
Yes. We handle emergency tree service for fallen trees, storm damage, and hazardous situations. If a tree is on your house, blocking your driveway, or threatening people or property, call Josh at (850) 888-5603. Storm and hazard calls are taken Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 8 PM, and we are closed Sundays.
Insurance & FEMA
Yes. Reed Tree Service is insured. We carry general liability insurance, which protects you as the property owner. If anything goes wrong on your property during our work, you're covered. We're happy to provide proof of insurance upon request.
If a tree falls on a structure (your home, garage, fence, etc.) due to a storm or natural event, homeowner's insurance typically covers the removal cost. If a healthy tree falls on open ground without hitting a structure, it usually isn't covered. We don't file claims, but Josh can give you a written estimate and an invoice for your adjuster.
FEMA may reimburse tree removal costs if a federal disaster is declared for your area. The tree typically needs to be blocking access to your home, threatening a structure, or creating an immediate hazard. Keep all receipts and documentation of the damage. We can help guide you through the process based on our experience with past storms.
Tree Health
For most trees in North Florida, late winter to early spring (January through March) is ideal. The tree is dormant and it's easier to see the branch structure. However, dead or hazardous limbs should be removed any time of year. Oaks are the exception. We avoid pruning them from February through June, when oak wilt spreads most easily, and live oaks do best pruned in late fall or winter. We'll advise on the best timing for your specific trees.
Warning signs include: no leaves during growing season (or sparse, discolored leaves), large sections of dead branches in the canopy, bark falling off in sheets, mushrooms or fungal growth at the base, significant lean that wasn't there before, or visible cracks in the trunk. If you're unsure, call Josh at (850) 888-5603 for a free estimate. We'll tell you honestly whether the tree can be saved.
Permits
It depends on the tree. The City of Tallahassee has a tree protection ordinance that covers certain trees based on species and size. Heritage and specimen trees require a permit before removal. Tell Josh your address when you call (850) 888-5603 and our crew will say whether a permit rule applies before any cuts are made.
Service Areas
We serve Tallahassee and the entire Big Bend region of North Florida, plus parts of South Georgia. This includes Crawfordville, Quincy, Monticello, Perry, Havana, Midway, and many more Florida communities, as well as Thomasville, Bainbridge, Cairo, and Valdosta in Georgia. If you're within about 100 miles of Tallahassee, give us a call.
Yes. We regularly work in Thomasville, Bainbridge, Cairo, Valdosta, Quitman, Moultrie, and surrounding areas in South Georgia. There's very little tree service competition in South Georgia, so we're happy to make the drive. Same quality service, same free estimates.
General
Yes. Josh Reed owns Reed Tree Service, and our crew does tree removal, tree trimming, stump grinding and storm cleanup across Leon County, from Killearn Estates to SouthWood. We are insured. Some folks search for us as Reeds Tree Service or Reed's Tree Service. Same crew either way. Call Josh at (850) 888-5603 and tell him your address and what the tree is doing.
Yes. We understand that having a crew on your property can be disruptive. You and Josh agree on timing when you call. For most jobs, you don't even need to be home. Just make sure we have access to the work area.
