About Shalimar & Okaloosa County
The Town of Shalimar is small. Wikipedia, citing the Census Bureau, lists 737 people in about 0.3 square miles at the 2020 census, and the town has its own Town Commission and a Town Hall at 2 Cherokee Road. Its limits are not the same as the Shalimar mailing address. Wikipedia notes that the Lake Lorraine and Poquito Bayou areas carry Shalimar postal addresses but lie outside the incorporated town, in unincorporated Okaloosa County. That line decides who picks up storm debris. Okaloosa County told residents of incorporated municipalities to contact their city or town for debris information, and Waste Management's pre-storm suspension named the Town of Shalimar separately from unincorporated Okaloosa County. The county's own collection began October 14 in unincorporated areas, with a storm debris line at 1-833-495-3664.
Shalimar posts debris instructions on its Hurricane Isaias Updates page, and a Town Hall post asks residents not to put hurricane debris in the dumpster beside Town Hall, which is kept for regular waste. We have not found a published Shalimar rule on debris that a tree crew cuts, so ask Town Hall before you count on the curb.
Eglin Air Force Base lies just north of the town, and its reservation, which also includes Hurlburt Field west of Mary Esther, is known for longleaf pine forests. Shalimar's first homes went up in 1942 to house Eglin officers, so the trees over them have had decades to grow. UF/IFAS Extension lists pine, oak and magnolia as the common trees of the Panhandle's forests, and a hurricane finds the ones with a lean, shallow roots or dead limbs over a roof.
Services We Provide in Shalimar
In Shalimar the work is storm-damaged pines and oaks taken down in sections over houses, fences and carports, limbs cleared from driveways and the way out, crowns trimmed back from roofs, and stumps ground out. Josh moves the cut wood and brush to the road only where the Town or the county will pick it up, and a big job can get haul-off through a sub, quoted on its own.

Tree Service Questions in Shalimar
Yes, where the crew can reach. A climber works the tree down in sections and lowers each piece on rigging lines instead of dropping it onto the roof, the carport or the fence. Josh looks at the access, the structure and any lines first and plans the cuts before anyone climbs. Call (850) 888-5603 with the street and which side of the town line you are on.
It depends on which side of the town line the address is. Okaloosa County told residents of incorporated municipalities to contact their city or town for debris information, and Shalimar is incorporated, so inside the town limits ask Town Hall. Lake Lorraine and Poquito Bayou carry Shalimar addresses but are in unincorporated Okaloosa County, which began collecting on October 14 and answers questions at 1-833-495-3664. For a tree our crew cuts, Josh moves the wood and brush to the road only where pickup allows it, and a big job can get haul-off through a sub, quoted on its own.
We have not found a published Town of Shalimar tree rule, so ask Town Hall before work starts. State law, section 163.045 of the Florida Statutes, bars a local government from requiring a notice, application, approval, permit, fee or mitigation to prune or remove a tree on single-family residential property when the owner holds an onsite risk assessment from an arborist holding the International Society of Arboriculture credential, or from a landscape architect, saying the tree poses an unacceptable risk to people or property. That assessment comes from the arborist, not from a tree crew.
No. The incorporated town is about 0.3 square miles, and neighborhoods such as Lake Lorraine and Poquito Bayou use Shalimar addresses while sitting in unincorporated Okaloosa County. Tell Josh the street when you call (850) 888-5603, since the town line changes who handles debris and who answers questions about rules.
By the job. Size, the rigging the tree needs, what sits under it and how close it is to the house all count, and stump grinding comes as its own line on Josh's quote. Debris handling and any haul-off on a big job are quoted separately.
