People searching for tree removal cost in Destin after Hurricane Isaias want a number. You will not find one here, and you should be wary of any company that quotes a flat price for storm work without hearing the job. What we can do is show you what moves the price, so you can describe the job accurately and compare quotes honestly.
Josh quotes every job individually. Call Josh at (850) 888-5603 and he will go through yours.
What sets the price of a storm removal
Size and species. A 30-foot slash pine and a 70-foot live oak are different jobs. Height, trunk diameter and how much wood is in the crown decide how many hours the work takes and how many pieces come down.
Where the tree is. A tree lying in an open yard is simpler than one on a roof, a pool enclosure, a fence or a car. Anything underneath the tree has to be protected, and the crew has to plan every cut so no piece lands on it.
Access. Destin lots are tight, and many yards are fenced, gated or surrounded by other buildings. If the crew has to carry gear through a narrow side yard or work around a condo parking area, the job takes longer.
Tension and hang-ups. A tree that was twisted or bent by the storm is under load. Cutting it is slower and riskier than cutting a tree that was standing normally. A limb hung up in another tree is the same problem.
Power lines. A tree touching a line is the utility's job first. Lines near the work also slow the crew down once the line is safe.
How many trees. More trees on a property means more work, though a second tree is not always double the first.
What happens to the debris. Josh cuts the tree and moves the debris to the road. If you want it hauled away instead, that is only done on bigger jobs, through a sub Josh hires, and it adds cost. Ask for it when you call.
The stump. Removing the tree and grinding the stump are different pieces of work. Say whether you want the stump gone.
Why storm jobs are priced differently
Storm work is slower than a normal removal. Trees are broken, split and loaded, and crews have to work out how everything is held before cutting. Demand is also high right now, because Isaias damaged trees in Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa counties at once.
None of that tells you a number. It tells you why two quotes for what looks like the same tree can be far apart.
How to compare quotes
- Describe the same job to everyone. Tell each company the size of the tree, where it is, what it is touching, and whether there are lines near it.
- Get the scope in writing. What is being cut, what happens to the wood and brush, and whether the stump is included.
- Ask where the debris goes. If the answer is "to the road," find out whether your city or county will pick it up. If the answer is "hauled," ask whether that is in the price.
- Ask where the company is based. After a storm, crews come from all over. Reed Tree Service is based in Tallahassee, and the climbing crew is working the Emerald Coast through late October. Ask the same of anyone you call.
Debris rules change what you pay for
The pickup rules decide whether you need haul-off at all:
- Destin's city crews began collecting on October 15, with a first pass of about 17 days.
- Walton County picks up on public and private roads.
- Okaloosa gated communities are serviced only if the HOA has filed a Right of Entry.
- Fort Walton Beach does not normally collect yard waste from private contractors.
- In Santa Rosa County and Milton, a hired contractor has to haul everything away.
The city and county notices do not say how debris cut by a contractor is handled in Destin or Walton, so ask before you plan around the curb. Our Isaias debris pickup guide has the source for each rule.
Where we are working
The crew is working in Destin, Miramar Beach, Fort Walton Beach and across Okaloosa and Walton counties. The Destin storm cleanup page has the details. If the tree is already on your house, start with what to do when a tree falls on your house.
FAQ
How much does tree removal cost in Destin after a storm?
It depends on the tree's size and species, where it fell, how easy it is to reach, whether it is under tension, and what you want done with the debris and stump. Josh quotes each job on its own. Call Josh at (850) 888-5603.
Why is storm tree removal more expensive than a normal removal?
Storm trees are often broken, split or loaded, so the work is slower and the crew has to plan more carefully. Demand is also high right now.
Does the price include hauling the debris away?
Josh cuts the tree and moves the debris to the road. Haul-off is only available on big jobs, through a sub he hires, and it is priced into the job. Ask when you call.
Can I get a price over the phone?
Josh can talk through the job with you by phone. A fair quote still depends on the details above, so be ready to describe the tree and where it is.
Does the city pick up the debris after the tree is cut?
Destin and Walton County are running storm pickup, but their notices do not say how debris from a contractor is handled. Check with the city or county before you rely on it.
