Right Tree, Right Place
This is where most people go wrong. That Bradford pear looks nice at the nursery, but it'll split apart in five years. That live oak is beautiful, but not six feet from your foundation. We look at your soil, sun exposure, drainage, and how much space the tree will need at maturity, not just the day it goes in the ground. We'll recommend species that work for your goals, whether that's shade, privacy, curb appeal, or all three. Native species like live oaks, bald cypress, Southern magnolias, and red maples do well here because they're built for our climate.
Proper Planting Technique
A tree planted too deep will slowly suffocate. One planted too shallow will dry out and blow over. The root flare needs to sit right at grade. The hole should be two to three times the width of the root ball but no deeper. We break up circling roots, orient the tree correctly, backfill with native soil (not amended soil that creates a bathtub effect) and water it in. These details matter. They're the difference between a tree that takes off and one that struggles for years.
Aftercare That Sets You Up
The first two years after planting are critical. We'll set you up with a simple watering schedule based on the species and the season. We mulch the base properly, two to four inches in a wide ring, not a volcano piled against the trunk. We'll come back and check on the tree if you want us to. Staking is only done when absolutely necessary, and we remove stakes after the first growing season so the trunk develops its own strength.

Late fall through early spring is ideal in North Florida. The cooler temperatures and winter rains help trees establish roots before summer heat hits. Container-grown trees can technically go in year-round, but you'll need to water heavily through summer. We'll time the planting for the best chance of success.
Live oaks, bald cypress, Southern magnolias, red maples, and sycamores all do great here. For smaller trees, crape myrtles, dogwoods, and Eastern redbuds are solid picks. We'll recommend based on your specific yard, soil, sun, space, and what you want from the tree.
